Why and How we Group Grade Levels at EQUIP
In a world increasingly focused on standardized outcomes and age segregation, our program chooses a different path: the intentional grouping of multiple age levels in a single classroom. Studies show that education is most effective when it mirrors the natural, multi-generational diversity of the real world rather than age segregation and standardization. These groupings are intentional and provide immense growth for our students academically, socially and spiritually. By combining grade levels, we foster a learning environment that prioritizes individual mastery, leadership, and a sense of community where they are supported and challenged.
Cornerstone: “the stone laid at the marking or origin of a building as a foundational basis”
The Cornerstone level embarks on laying a solid foundation for our 4th-6th graders on a 3 year rotation, teaching the fundamentals in academics and accountability as they navigate their education.
Keystone: “the central support allowing for the success of the overall structure”
The Keystone level establishes our middle schoolers with everything they need to prepare for success in high-school through independent work with accountability and academic integrity. Keystone covers 7th and 8th grades on a two-year rotation.
Capstone: “the finishing stone or crowning achievement, culmination or final stroke”
The Capstone level empowers high school students for future success guiding them to think critically and logically through the material, their actions, decisions, and beliefs. Capstone is broken into 2 levels: 9th - 10th grade and 11th -12th, each operating on a 2 year rotation.
